About the role
AvaFin is currently looking for a talented individual to join our international team as Head of Data Science within the Group Risk Hub. Reporting directly to our Chief Risk Officer, this role will involve shaping and executing a comprehensive data strategy crucial to achieving our company’s strategic objectives. You will be also responsible for maximizing the talents of the Data Science team and fostering an environment of growth and innovation.

Your key role will be to
- • Lead and manage a team of data scientists and analysts to deliver high-quality data-driven solutions and insights
- • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business needs, define analytics requirements, and provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making
- • Oversee the development, implementation, and optimization of machine learning models, predictive algorithms, and data-driven applications to enhance product and service offerings
- • Guide and promote upskilling and knowledge sharing within the team, fostering the development of state-of-the-art AI/ML solutions, and keeping the team updated with industry trends.
- • Mentor a team of Data Scientists, creating an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and a strong focus on value creation
- • Collaborate with business, product, and engineering stakeholders to prioritize impactful work, ensuring that data science requirements are adequately considered

We expect from you
- • 5+ years of progressive experience in a senior data science leadership role, demonstrating successful management of large-scale projects and teams
- • At least MSc in a relevant scientific discipline such as Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or IT/informatics
- • Proficiency in advanced machine learning techniques, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics, with a deep understanding of AI technologies and their practical applications
- • Expertise in modern application and data stacks (Microservices, Event Streaming, Data Lakes, Container-orchestration) and ability to integrate these technologies into data science workflows
- • In-depth knowledge of ETL processes, data warehousing, and data governance to ensure high-quality, clean, and accessible data for analysis
- • Demonstrated ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, promoting an agile and innovative data science culture
